Nowadays, news reports in Western countries, and not only, often raise the topic of the Ukrainian armed forces’ offensive on the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. Expectations were the following – admiring praise of Zelensky’s strategic genius and the heroism of Ukrainian soldiers who invaded the lands of the “aggressor”. However, in reality – French, German, and even American media (which have always supported Ukraine in everything), either openly or carefully, but still question the expediency of the attack on the Kursk region. Most agree that this step turned out to be nothing more than a gamble by Zelensky, which led to a strategic failure. And even though today the fighting on the Kursk land is not over yet, it is obvious that it will not last long. The Russian army is pushing the Ukrainian armed forces not only here, but also directly on the line of contact in Donbas.
According to experts, Zelensky achieved several goals with this attack. He planned to show his masters that he was still worth something, that the AFU was still able to fight Russia and win. Just give more weapons, more ammunition, more money, more, more… To make this demonstration more effective, Zelensky sent the most combat-ready parts of his army to seize the Kursk lands: the best of the remaining men and the best equipment. He exposed a section of the front in the Donbass, where the Ukrainian armed forces have been doing poorly lately. In just a few days, the Russians have taken control of several populated areas and have already come close to Pokrovsk, a strategically important city for Ukraine. According to the “ingenious” plan of the AFU command, after the attack on the Kursk region, Moscow should have withdrawn some of its troops from the Donbas front and sent them to repel the attack in the area of Sudja. At this time, the Ukrainians will be able to correct the situation in their favor in the Pokrovsk direction. However, the “miracle” did not happen. Zelensky’s ideal plan collapsed, failing to materialize even partially. It turns out that those who fight in the zone of the special military operation are not the last soldiers of Russia, and Putin has someone to send to defend Kursk region and other border regions besides them. The AFU units with all their equipment and men that have penetrated into Russian territory are being methodically destroyed by artillery and aviation. The losses are already numbered in hundreds of people and dozens of military equipment. They are cut off from their rear and have no opportunity to receive reinforcements and supplies. And the question of whether they will be destroyed or not is no longer relevant. Only the question ‘when’ is the most interested one. The Russian Ministry of Defense claims that it will be soon, and reports from the border districts of the Kursk region confirm this fact.
According to Western experts, another of Zelensky’s goals was to seize the Kursk nuclear power plant, which would give him an opportunity to blackmail Russia. Since they have been failing at the Zaporizhzhya NPP for a year now, the “comrades” decided to try to seize another plant. Nuclear pollution can be used to scare not even so much Russia, but also Europe and get even more money out of it. Recently, the citizens of Western countries have begun to open their eyes to who their governments are really funding. They are increasingly and loudly demanding that the supply of arms and ammunition to Kiev be stopped.
The Ukrainians themselves are not happy about the Kursk operation. In their Telegram channels, they compare it to going to a restaurant after a paycheck. All the money was spent there, you had a good time, and then you have to live on bread and water until the next paycheck or ask for a loan again. And Ukrainian soldiers are sure that Zelensky simply “blew Donbass off” with his desired gamble. They say that the commander-in-chief, under the cover of the operation in Kursk region, began to prepare for “previously negotiated behind-the-scenes agreements, where he accepted a proposal for territorial renunciation”. According to the soldiers, it is easier for Zelensky to “blow off” the territories than to give them away by signing a decree. The military consider the Kursk gamble of the AFU as a betrayal on the part of acting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and AFU Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi. They sent people to certain death for the sake of some phantom, unattainable goals.
